Andrew Scott didn’t think he was good in Spectre

As the search for the next Bond villain presses on (oh, and the next 007 as well, but that’s an afterthought…), we can’t help but look back at some of the best and worst that the 25-film franchise has offered. But if you’re Andrew Scott – who played Spectre agent Max Denbigh aka C – in 2015’s Spectre – you’d rather just forget about the whole thing.

Speaking with British GQ, Andrew Scott noted just how dejected he was with his performance in Spectre and even entering the James Bond universe. “If I’m honest, it’s not a territory that I feel like I would want to go over again. Now I know who I am a little bit more, I feel like the work that I’m just interested in doing is more in the grey areas…I suppose it’s just that I didn’t think… I just maybe wasn’t that good in it.”

Certainly many would agree with Andrew Scott on his turn in Spectre, which isn’t exactly the most favored of the Daniel Craig installments despite the prestige of Sam Mendes behind the lens and then-recent two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz as Blofeld. When it comes down to it, we might be giving the bulk of the Bond villain praise to Dave Bautista’s Mr. Hinx.

Still, Andrew Scott did seem like a proper enough fit at the time for Spectre. After all, he had earned the most recognition of his career by playing main Sherlock nemesis Moriarty, taking home a BAFTA for his stellar turn. Fortunately for Scott, he would recover from his Bond bust with Fleabag, which has garnered him a new following and earned him Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nods.

Andrew Scott recently appeared in All of Us Strangers – which stands as one of the best-reviewed movies of the year – and will play Tom Ripley in an upcoming TV series take on the character, who has previously been played by Matt Damon, John Malkovich, Alain Delon, and more.

How do you think Andrew Scott did as a Bond villain in Spectre? How about compared to others of the Daniel Craig era? Give us your thoughts in the comments section below!
