Just earlier this week word leaked that Josh Hutcherson had signed on to star in the upcoming SPIDER-MAN reboot. But no wait, it’s really Jamie Bell. But no wait, no one really knows. It’s actually Andrew Garfield. Sony has just announced that the BOY A star, soon to be seen in David Fincher’s THE SOCIAL NETWORK and Mark Romanek’s NEVER LET YOU GO, will star as Peter Parker.
Said director Marc Webb of Garfield’s casting: “Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”
Producer Laura Ziskin added: “In the end, we all agreed that in addition to being an extraordinary actor, Andrew had the right mix of humor, youth, and pathos, along with an underlying sense of strength and power necessary to bring Peter Parker and Spider-Man to life on screen.”
While I think Garfield is a very talented actor, I just don’t see him as Peter Parker. For one, he’s too old (currently age 27) for the high school reboot they seem to be planning. For another, I think he’s just a little too dashing and debonair for the geeky Parker. But hey, that’s just me. What do you guys think??
