Actress Andrea Riseborough, who first caught my attention when she appeared in the Tom Cruise film OBLIVION, recently starred with Nicolas Cage in the upcoming genre film MANDY, was featured in an episode of Black Mirror, and is currently working on THE EYES OF MY MOTHER director Nicolas Pesce's reboot of THE GRUDGE. Now she has lined up her next genre project: a sci-fi thriller titled POSSESSOR.
POSSESSOR is the second feature for writer/director Brandon Cronenberg, the son of genre icon David Cronenberg. The younger Cronenberg made his feature debut with the 2012 film ANTIVIRAL.
Riseborough will be playing
Tasya Vos, an agent for a secretive organization who uses brain-implant technology to inhabit other people’s bodies, driving them to commit assassinations for the benefit of high-paying clients. But something goes wrong on a routine job, and she soon finds herself trapped in the mind of an unwitting suspect whose appetite for violence turns out to rival her own.
Joining her in the cast is Chris Abbot as the "unwitting suspect".
POSSESSOR is being produced by Fraser Ash, Niv Fichman, Kevin Krikst, and Andy Starke, with the participation of Telefilm Canada and the Ontario Media Development Corporation. Gary Hamilton, Ryan Hamilton, Steven Squillante, David U. Lee, Noah Segal, Adrian Love, and Tony Roman serve as executive producers.
Arclight Films is presenting the project to potential distributors at the Cannes Film Market. Elevation Pictures will distribute the film in Canada.
It's cool to see Brandon Cronenberg following in his father's footsteps, and the casting of his second feature is off to a great start. POSSESSOR is a project we'll definitely be keeping an eye on.
