Lucasfilm has some pretty exciting content hitting Disney Plus this fall, with the D23 Convention offering us the final trailer for Andor, as well as a first-look trailer for the upcoming Willow sequel series!
The first season of the two-season Disney+ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story prequel, Andor, hits the service on September 21st, and the final trailer was unveiled for the packed audience at this year’s D23 in Anaheim. The trailer, which strikes a notably grittier tone than some of the others, with its sparse version of the familiar Star Wars fanfare, foreshadows Andor’s eventual fate, as seen in Rogue One. Stellan Skarsgård’s Luther Rael warns Andor that he’ll eventually die fighting for the Rebellion. The series seems to center around the character finally accepting his ultimate fate, which comes as a part of fighting for something bigger than himself.
As previously revealed, the series is set for a limited run, consisting of two twelve-episode seasons. As the cast took the stage at D23, it was revealed that the second season, which is supposed to lead directly into the events of Rogue One, has almost finished filming. Luna, who’s also an executive producer on the series, promises that each season is like a twelve-hour movie, which a lot of streaming shows aspire to be, particularly on Disney Plus.
Perhaps even more exciting was our first look at the Willow sequel series, which hits Disney+ on November 30th. This is one that many of us, who grew up with Ron Howard’s 1988 classic, have been waiting for. In the trailer, we get a good look at Warwick Davis returning as the titular character, in addition to Joanne Whalley returning as Sorsha, whose daughter, Ruby Cruz’s Kit, seems to be one of the central characters. Perhaps even more surprising (and welcome) was the reveal, via the trailer, that Kevin Pollack and Rick Overton are back as the Brownie duo Rool and Franjean. But what about Madmartigan? Sadly, the cast on stage at D23 confirmed that Kilmer will not be taking part in the first season, but Christian Slater is stepping in to fill his shoes, to a certain extent, as “Madmartigan’s friend.” This is superb casting, and it has to be said, this trailer is perfect.
