Among the announcements presented at today’s Star Wars Celebration 2023 is the return of the acclaimed series that follows Rogue One character Cassian Andor. Andor season 2 was being written during the first season’s production and had been shooting since last November. The teaser for the next season of the Disney+ Star Wars series was debuted at the celebration after the announcement by the show’s creator, Tony Gilroy, that the new season is due to hit home screens sometime in August 2024.
Deadline reports that Gilroy has stated, “We started shooting in November. We’re halfway. We will finish shooting in August, a year on post, and we’ll come out in the following August.” Gilroy also talked about how the writers planned the show’s ending with this coming season. He stated that they were “very pleased” with the series coming to its conclusion in the near future because they’ve always known where exactly the story was heading.
“We know exactly where we’re going so you know what you have to deliver,” Gilroy had said. “It was a decision born of survival, but it’s been creatively potent. We’re very pleased, it’s good to know there’s an ending coming.” Gilroy took the stage with the majority of the cast including Diego Luna and Andy Serkis. They would treat the fans to a teaser trailer for the upcoming season. The teaser showed footage of Cassian Andor free and on a mission with a ticking clock element.
This past year, Gilroy had confirmed that Ariel Kleiman, Janus Metz, and Alonso Ruizpalacios are on board as directors for the new season. He also confirmed that he would again be writing with his brother, Dan Gilroy, and Beau Willmon is joining to write the second season. Gilroy also announced previously that Tom Bissell had been added to the team as a season 2 writer, who Gilroy says is a “really cool and really, really interesting, versatile, really good writer. But also a very, very, very big Star Wars fan, which we really wanted to make sure we had another pro because we’re going into Rogue One.”
