While putting the finishing touches on his latest feature, Poor Things, Yorgos Lanthimos is here to announce the cast of his upcoming film AND. Emma Stone (Cruella, La La Land), Jesse Plemons (The Power of the Dog, Breaking Bad), Willem Dafoe (The Lighthouse, Spider-Man: No Way Home), and Margaret Qualley (Maid, The Nice Guys) will star, though the plot of Lanthimos’ AND movie remains a mystery. The script hails from Element Pictures and Film4, with Lanthimos and Efthimis Filippou putting digital pens to screen. Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe produce through Element alongside Kasia Malipan and Lanthimos.
“Working with Yorgos continues to be a highlight for us at Searchlight, and this is yet another truly original project that sets his work apart,” commented Searchlight presidents David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield. “Working again with Emma, Willem, Jesse and Margaret as well as Element and Film4 is just the icing on the cake.”
“This is our fifth film with Yorgos and we are delighted to reunite once again with Searchlight and Film4 on this brilliant script by Yorgos and Efthmis,” Guiney and Lowe said in a statement. “Yorgos has drawn an incredible cast and crew and we are dying to get started.”
Stone, Dafoe, and Qualley also star in Lanthimos’ next feature, Poor Things. Also starring Mark Ruffalo, Christopher Abbott, Jack Barton, Jerrod Carmichael, Kathryn Hunter, and Jeremy Wheeler, Poor Things is a Victorian tale of love, discovery, and scientific daring. The film centers on Belle Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by an eccentric but brilliant scientist.
Though the cast is exceptional, I have no idea what Lanthimos’ AND movie is about, and I’m willing to go in blind. Lanthimos is a proven director who always manages to extract every drop from his stories and actors. I feel AND will do the same, and I look forward to learning more.
