Ana de Armas in talks to star in John Wick spinoff Ballerina

After kicking some ass alongside Daniel Craig in No Time to Die, Deadline has reported that Ana de Armas is set to headline her own action film as she’s currently in talks to star in the John Wick spinoff, Ballerina.

The John Wick spinoff has been in the works for quite some time and is said to revolve around a young female assassin who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family. Ballerina has been scripted by Shay Hatten, who penned John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and Army of the Dead, and will be directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld). It’s not clear if Keanu Reeves will make an appearance in the movie, but Deadline says that there’s hope that he could make a cameo alongside Angelica Huston, who played The Director in Parabellum.

John Wick director Chad Stahelski has previously teased that the spinoff will have a different take on the action compared to the main franchise. “The director has a lot to do, especially someone as stylistic and as good as Len is,” Stahelski said. “Having him on board and approaching some of the action design from a slightly different perspective, meaning the set pieces, the character involvement, how and what he wants to do during the action sequences, makes it kind of fresh. So, we’re not just copying ourselves over and over again with gun-fu or something like that. And because the character is different, we’re going to get a different take on things. But as far as the level, the competence or the style of action? Yes. I plan to be there to assist whenever I can. And our 87eleven stunt team will be very actively involved in helping Len in all his action needs.“

Ana de Armas can currently be seen in No Time to Die, and will next be seen playing Marilyn Monroe in Andrew Dominik’s Blonde, which will debut on Netflix in 2022. She’s also starring alongside Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling in The Gray Man from the Russo brothers.
