An update on the Elizabeth Banks’ Tinkerbell movie

So here’s a coincidence: The track “Fairy Dance” from the PETER PAN score came up just as I started typing this article.

Elizabeth Banks, something of a blonde bombshell in her own right (not just for her beauty but for her versatility and the commitment she brings to her work), has recently shared some new info with the good people over at Movie Hole about Disney’s Tinkerbell project which we reported on back in 2010 . Banks will still be producing and staring in the film which, crazily enough, is still called TINK. To be fair, there isn’t much else they could really call it.

Says Banks: “It’s a live action Tinkerbell movie sort of in the vein of Elf in which I would play Tinkerbell. Tinkerbell gets thrown out of Never Never Land, and it’s about where she goes and who she meets and the adventures she has… Tinkerbell is one of the greatest characters because she’s mischievous and snarky and fun and sexy and jealous and vengeful.”

But wait just a wee second there, don’t fly off to the cinema just yet: “We’re in script stage and everybody is really excited and blah, blah, doesn’t mean anything. You might as well not even write it down because who knows, it might not even happen.”

Eh, I’ll write it down anyway. Maybe it will happen, and then I’d feel foolish. Speaking of writing, in our last report McG (THIS MEANS WAR, CHARLIE’S ANGELS) was writing the script, but it seems that the gig now belongs to Marti Noxon (the FRIGHT NIGHT remake) while McG is relegated to producing alongside Adam Shankman (HAIRSPRAY) and Banks.

And I would actually argue that Noxon’s involvement means that there is some movement on the project after all, so details may be surfacing sooner than Banks seems think. Or not. But that’s the business, right? That’d be a shame though, as I am kindasortamaybe interested.  Perhaps the combination of Noxon and Banks can bring some spice to the project and convince Disney to take a bit of a chance by sexing up Tinkerbell and really going all out with her mischievous tricks and snarky attitude.  Or not.  Again.
