Earlier this morning, we reported a rumor that AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING was being canned, less than a month before its April 1st release date. And now, the truth: It's not being pulled from the schedule, just stretched on the calendar rack yet again.
Apparently after looking at the finished film, producers decided to push the release date to January 6, 2017. Apparently "people like to be scared at the start of a year," although you and I both know that's just a smokescreen. January horror is January horror for a reason.
This is the second time the release date has been changed since the film was postponed indefinitely back in 2014. Since then it has been roughed up time and time again, and eventually re-edited to a PG-13 rating. This frustrating treatment is not reassuring, though AWAKENING could hardly be worse than the past, oh, seven installments in the franchise.
The plot awakens:
Belle, her little sister, and her comatose twin brother move into a new house with their single mother Joan in order to save money to help pay for her brother’s expensive healthcare. But when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house including the miraculous recovery of her brother, Belle begins to suspect her Mother isn’t telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house.
The film was directed by Franck Khalfoun and stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, Bella Thorne, McKenna Grace, Cameron Monaghan, Kurtwood Smith, Taylor Spreitler, Thomas Mann, and Jennifer Morrison.
