Here's a new project that could turn out to be amazing, or amazingly bad. In an interview with Vice, AMERICAN PSYCHO author and THE CANYONS screenwriter Bret Easton Ellis revealed he is writing a movie for none other than Mr. "Voice of this Generation," AKA Kanye West. The rapper apparently approached Ellis about the project last summer, but didn't want to be involved. However, the novelist changed his mind after listening to Kanye West's last album.
"He came and asked me to write the film. I didn’t want to at first. Then I listened to Yeezus. It was early summer last year and I was driving in my car. He’d given me an advance copy, and I thought, regardless of whether I’m right for this project, I want to work with whoever made this. So fuck it, I said yes. And that’s how it happened. That was seven or eight months ago. We’ll see what happens."
Unfortunately, Bret Easton Ellis couldn't make any other comments about the collaboration.
"You know what, I can’t. It’s in Kanye Land, and that’s subject to a whole other time frame."
Bret Easton Ellis and Kanye West might seem like an odd pairing, but this isn't the first time they've worked together. West has appeared on Ellis' podcast, and the rapper released a parody of AMERICAN PSYCHO (see below) to help promote his last album. West also contributed some of his music for a remixed trailer for THE CANYONS.
I know there are some that despise both Kanye West and Bret Easton Ellis, but a movie involving both of them sounds insane in a good way, and I am definitely interested in seeing what Ellis has cooked up for West. However, who knows when (or if) we'll be able to see the finished movie since there's no word on a release date, cast or pretty much anything else about the film. It sounds like they are still in the early stages of development though, so hopefully we'll learn more about this project soon.
