AMERICAN MARY is proof positive that Canadian horror is alive and well. As the sophomore effort of Jen and Sylvia Soska (DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK), the indie flick has garnered rave reviews. It has also recently picked up for distribution by Anchor Bay (for Canada) and Universal (for the UK). While no U.S. distributor has yet been announced, us Yanks can at least enjoy the film’s latest international poster.
Though it’s lighter on the bloodshed than much of the promotional material surrounding AMERICAN MARY, the one-sheet seems to encompass the film’s themes and surgical fetishes nicely. Plus, Katherine Isabelle holding medical cutting tools– who can’t get behind that image?
The film co-stars Antonio Cupo, Tristan Risk, David Lovgre, Paula Lindberg, and Clay St. Thomas. Check out the poster, along with a synopsis below. If you’re in the U.S. keep your fingers crossed the flick will see stateside release sooner than later…
The story follows medical student, Mary Mason, as she becomes increasingly broke and disenchanted with the surgical world she once admired. The allure of easy money sends Mary into the world of underground surgeries which ends up leaving more marks on her than her so called ‘freakish’ clientele.
