The sixth season of American Horror Story, AHS: Roanoke, is coming to an end, and now that people are actually enjoying the show again, Ryan Murphy has decided to carry on his plan to link all the disparate seasons together, bringing together two of the anthology's most popular settings: Coven and Murder House.
Murphy broke the news at Entertainment Weekly's PopFest this Sunday, saying:
We do know what we’re going to do. It’s not going to be next season, but we are going to do a season that’s a crossover between Murder House and Coven together, which is very bizarre. There will be characters from Murder House and characters from Coven together.
I’ve [already] started going to actors from both of the seasons, quietly, saying, ‘I think in this window, if you could fit us in. So yeah, it’s fun. It’s weird.
Could this be the rumored secret season that Murphy has been developing? What we do know is that it won't be the newly renewed seventh season, which is already in development.
Murphy has been trying to link the seasons of the series since he perhaps prematurely made the announcement that all of the various settings would be linked in some way, but this is the first time that the show will have a genuine, show-altering crossover. I have no idea why these two seasons would mix, other than the fact that they're the most popular. Will the Coven move into the Murder House as they try to make it in Hollywood? Pretty much everybody from both seasons is six feet under, so unless they go back in time I don't imagine there are too many options.
I do hope we get a scene where various characters comment on how they look exactly like each other, because every season has pretty much the same cast. But that seems like a sillier, Glee-ier touch that wouldn't exactly fit this darker, grittier AHS universe. Oh well. We'll see. I'm happy the show is experimenting, even if it's in such a gimmicky way.
