It’s been a rumor for a few months now, but today it has been confirmed: The fourth season of FX’s “American Horror Story” will take place at a carnival.
This was solidified by staff writer Douglas Petrie during a recent Nerdist Writers Panel podcast. “Very roughly, that’s the idea,” Petrie responded when asked if the show was going to have a Carnival theme.
It had previously been reported that S4 of the horror anthology will be taking place in the 1950s; that and the setting are currently all we know about the season, but you can expect more information to come out when showrunner Ryan Murphy and some of the AHS family appear at PaleyFest on March 28th.
Here is what Murphy had previously said about the next AHS run:
It’s a combination of things. It’s a combination of two time periods, with the main one being the 1950s. I don’t know. We haven’t started writing it yet, so I don’t really know the tone. I like that we had a lot of comedy in this year, and I like the comic characters, so I think that will remain… Next year will be equally as challenging [as “Coven” was] because so much of it is period and bizarre and crazy and Gothic. My feeling is, if you loved this season, you’ll love next season. It has the same sort of comedic tone to it.”
Jessica Lange returns to “American Horror Story” for (perhaps) the final time, and while no other cast members have been announced, it looks like Murphy wants Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett to return after their successful AHS debuts last year.
