AMC Theatres delays re-opening to July 30th in light of studio rescheduling

Give yourself a chip if you have "AMC delays reopening theaters" on your coronavirus Bingo card.

AMC Theaters announced on Monday that it will reopen its circuit on July 30 as opposed to July 15. The decision to postpone reopenings of their theaters arrives months after the outlet's nationwide mid-March closures, and the delay of films like Christopher Nolan's TENET and Disney's live-action version of MULAN.

Adam Aron, CEO & President, AMC Theatres, delivered the news via an official statement, saying, “We continue to devote extraordinary resources into our plan to operate our theatres with a hyper commitment to the safety and health of our guests and associates, notably in the United States through our new AMC Safe & Clean initiative. Our theatre general managers across the U.S. started working full time again today and are back in their theatres gearing up to get their buildings fully ready just a few weeks from now for moviegoers. That happy day, when we can welcome guests back into most of our U.S. theatres, will be Thursday, July 30.”

On July 30th, the uber-popular thater chain will resume operations of 450 U.S. theatres as part of its phased plan to bring its 600-plus multiplexes back on line by early August. For those of you who're itching to return to theaters, AMC's new reopening date is timed so that the company can host Solstice Studio’s Russell Crowe road rage thriller UNHINGED. Directed by Derrick Borte, UNHINGED tells the story of how after a confrontation with an unstable man (Crowe) at an intersection, a woman (Caren Pistorious) becomes the target of his rage. The film also stars WESTWORLD's Jimmi Simpson and Child's Play actor Gabriel Bateman.

In going down the list of films that are theater-bound, we find that UNHINGED will now open on July 31, while TENET is scheduled for an August 12 debut, with MULAN set to honor us all in cinemas on August 21.

How pumped are you to return to movie theaters once they've reopened? Will you line up for UNHINGED or wait until Nolan's next opus makes the scene? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
