Ambulance: Yahya Abdul-Mateen II joins Jake Gyllenhaal in Michael Bay film

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen) will be joining forces with Jake Gyllenhaal (Spider-Man: Far From Home) as THR has reported that the pair are slated to star in Ambulance, a contained thriller directed by Michael Bay (6 Underground).

Ambulance is said to be based on a 2005 Dutch thriller that followed two brothers on the run from the police who stole an ambulance, only to realize too late that a female paramedic and a patient in critical condition already occupy the vehicle. Dylan O'Brien (Love and Monsters) was originally circling the role of Gyleenhaal's brother, but scheduling couldn't be worked out so the part was rewritten and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II stepped in as he now has an opening thanks to Aquaman 2 being pushed back. Eiza González (Hobbs & Shaw) is slated to play the paramedic and production on Ambulance is set to kick off early next year.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has some big projects over the horizon; in addition to the Aquaman sequel, the actor is slated to star in Nia DaCosta's Candyman and will also appear in The Matrix 4. Candyman was originally set to hit theaters this summer, but COVID-19 forced the studio to push the film back and it's now slated to premiere on August 27, 2021. The Matrix 4 will be released in theaters and on HBO Max on December 22, 2021. Abdul-Mateen II is also set to star in George Miller's Mad Max prequel, Furiosa, alongside Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth.
