Amblin’s Distant casts Game of Thrones breakout Kristopher Hivju

One of the greatest taglines in cinematic history states that in space no one can hear you scream. After today, I'm not entirely sure that this is true, because I can sure as hell hear some alien planets squeeing over the fact that Kristopher Hivju has just been cast in Amblin's upcoming Sci-fi comedy film DISTANT.

You're likely to know Hivju as Tormund Giantsbane, the lovable leader and raider among the Free Folk for HBO's Game of Thrones. Tormund, with his mighty beard and optimistic outlook on love, quickly became a fan-favorite among GOT's extensive cast, thanks largely to Hivju's charisma and gentle giant-like demeanor.

According to Deadline, DISTANT tells the story of an asteroid miner who, after crash-landing on an alien planet, must contend with the challenges of his new surroundings, while making his way across the harsh terrain to the only other survivor – a woman who is trapped in her escape pod.

Will Speck and Josh Gordon, who shot the Will Ferrell and Jon Heder sport comedy BLADES OF GLORY, will direct, from a spec script penned by Spenser Cohen. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Fred Berger, and Anna Halberg are set to produce, with Speck and Gordon also acting as executive producers, alongside Jonathan Rothbart and Matt Hirsch.

In addition to his Game of Thrones role, Hivju also starred as the character Steinar Hovland for the Swedish TV series Beck. He also played Connor Rhodes in 2017's THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS, alongside Charlize Theron's villain Cipher. Soon, Hivju will star as Nivellen for season two of Netflix's The Witcher, which just released a new batch of photos of Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia.

Anthony Ramos and Naomi Scott also star in the upcoming film, which we'll be happy to tell you more about as the project develops. Stay tuned!
