One of the big films we here at AITH are big supporters of is directing team François Simard, Anouk Whissell, and Yoann-Karl Whissell's TURBO KID. And today we hear from producer Ant Timpson that an ambitious ROAD WARRIOR-style sequel is in the works!
Timpson tells Bloody Disgusting’s Boo Crew Podcast about TURBO KID 2:
Well look, that’s been a long time coming. There’s a script for Turbo Kid 2. We want to make it, that’s all I can say. It’s really a case of finding the backers [financiers] because it’s way more ambitious. It’s kind of like Road Warrior‘s step up from Mad Max. Its sort of that kind of ambition…you needs a little bit more money than we had for the first film. They want to make that a dream project.
Set in the post-apocalyptic year of 1997, this retro-futuristic and nostalgic tribute to 80's action-adventure films follows
An orphaned teenager who goes on an adventure to save his female-robot companion from the hands of an evil warlord who controls the only water supply.
TURBO KID was written and directed by François Simard, Anouk Whissell, and Yoann-Karl Whissell. Ant Timpson produced with Benoit Beaulieu, Anne-Marie Gélinas, and Tim Riley, It stars Munro Chambers, Laurence Leboeuf, Edwin Wright, Aaron Jeffery, and Michael Ironside. Epic Pictures released it back on August 28, 2015. The film holds a 90% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: "A nostalgic ode to kids' movies of yesteryear, Turbo Kid eyes the past through an entertaining — albeit surprisingly gory — postmodern lens."
