Amber Heard made it clear heading into the defamation trial started by her ex-husband Johnny Depp that she lost a lot due to the actor. Now that more than 6,000 pages of court documents used in the trial are unsealed, we can see how much the actress believes she lost and claims it was at least $47-50 million.
The Daily Beast has seen some unsealed documents, and Heard claims that she suffered financial losses in the “$47-50 million” range over a “3-5 year period” because of Depp’s defamatory claims and statements against her. Heard’s legal team also said that her stature as an actor was “comparable” to Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Zendaya, Ana de Armas, and Chris Pine.
The documents also detail that Amber Heard walked away from “tens of millions of dollars” by refusing to accept money that Johnny Depp made on the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie. The fifth installment was shot during their marriage, which made it a “community property asset” and entitled the actress to half of the income Depp made from the film. Per The Daily Beast, Johnny Depp made $33 million from the fourth Pirates movie, so he was likely to match that figure, or perhaps make even more, on the fifth film. Heard refused to accept the money during her divorce proceedings, and this evidence was subsequently excluded from the defamation trial.
The defamation trial ended in June with the jury ordering Amber Heard to pay $10.35 million in damages to Depp after it was ruled that she defamed the actor when she wrote a 2018 op-ed for the Washington Post alluding to past claims of domestic violence. The jury also awarded Heard $2 million in compensatory damages for her counterclaim, and since the verdict was announced, it has been a constant battle by Heard to get the decision thrown out so she can get a new trial. Her efforts have failed so far, but I bet she won’t back down until every last one of her resources is exhausted.
