Amazon’s Suspiria remake hits theaters this fall

We've been hearing a lot of news regarding the upcoming remake of Dario Argento's SUSPIRIA from Amazon Studios and director Luca Guadagnino. But we have yet to catch wind of anything resembling a release date or a release strategy. Until today that is. Today we have word via Variety that the remake will be released theatrically in Italy by Videa who are "planning a fall Italian release in tandem with Amazon’s U.S. theatrical outing."

Yes, it seems, buried in an article about the film's Italian release strategy, we have found out that all of us here in the U.S. will be able to lay our eyes on this (supposedly) brutal reimagining this fall. As I've said before, and I will surely say again, I'm not inherently against this remake. Argento's classic is obviously untouchable in every conceivable way, but I think the basic story is ripe with tons of new potential.

Especially considering this new version's cast includes such heavy-hitters as Tilda Swinton, Mia Goth, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Dakota Johnson. And let's not forget the film also features original SUSPIRIA star Jessica Harper and its score is composed by none other than Thom Yorke of a little band called Radiohead.

Guadagnino's remake follows the tale of:

Susie Bannion, a young American woman, travels to the prestigious Markos Tanz Company in Berlin in the year 1977. She arrives just as one of the Company’s members, Patricia, has disappeared under mysterious circumstances. As Susie makes extraordinary progress under the guidance of Madame Blanc, the Company’s revolutionary artistic director, she befriends another dancer, Sara, who shares her suspicions that the Matrons, and the Company itself, may be harboring a dark and menacing secret.

The remake is currently completing post-production for its premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September. We'll let you know when we hear more!
