Amazon grants full seasons to The Tick and other new pilots

I love The Tick. With his goofy speeches, bumbling heroics, and deranged smile, who can resist his charms? In fact, who doesn’t love The Tick? Puppy stompers? No, because even they aren’t that cruel.

Anyway, I’m glad to hear that the new TICK reboot from Amazon is getting a full series order. While it had a divisive pilot (hewing darker than any of its previous incarnations), I really enjoyed it. The comics and cartoon spoofed the over-the-top nature of comic-books and superheroes in general, and the original 2001 TV series starring Patrick Warburton spoofed the glaring excess of things like Schumacher’s BATMAN series, but the new one is now taking pot-shots at the growing trend of “gritty” and “realistic” heroes like DAREDEVIL, JESSICA JONES, and the new BATMAN V SUPERMAN film. So I think it fits that as superhero films and TV shows evolve, so too should THE TICK. I’m looking forward to it.

But that’s not all! Amazon has sent out full season orders for all of the pilots it put out. This includes JEAN-CLAUDE VAN JOHNSON, which was a fun comedy about Jean-Claude Van Damme who is playing both a fictionalized version of his celebrity persona and a super secret agent who uses his films as cover. The other is the dramedy I LOVE DICK with Kathryn Hahn as a married author who becomes fascinated by the eponymous Dick (Kevin Bacon).

So did you guys watch the pilots? And, if so, excited for the new shows?
