Amazon and Netflix have both passed on season four of Hannibal

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

After the cancellation of Hannibal many of us refused to believe that the show was truly dead, surely Amazon or Netflix would save Hannibal for us, but unfortunately the show will have to find another method of resurrection as Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller has stated on Twitter that both Amazon and Netflix have passed on the opportunity to bring the show back for a fourth season.

As Hannibal has a streaming deal with Amazon, I was hopeful that if anyone could take the show in it would be them, but it seems like they won't be playing savior this time around. It's heartening to know that Bryan Fuller is still looking into other possibilities to revive the show, but the likelihood of that happening seems rather bleak at the moment. Another stumbling block to the show's return is that the contracts of both Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen have expired, although both actors have stated that they love the show and would return to their roles should a season four pickup occur.

In addition to the cast departing, Bryan Fuller himself already has a new project on the go; he will be developing and writing the new Starz series American Gods alongside Michael Green (Kings). The new series, which is based on the Neil Gaiman novel of the same name, has been given a straight-to-series order but doesn't have a release date at the moment.

Can anyone else step up to the plate and save Hannibal? The Food Network perhaps?
