Amazing Stories reboot now in the hands of Once Upon a Time creators

Earlier this year, prolific television producer Bryan Fuller chose to move on from Apple's reboot of Amazing Stories, the short-lived anthology series Steven Spielberg executive produced in the 1980s. After being attached to the reboot for quite a while, Fuller and fellow executive producer Hart Hanson left the show over "creative differences", and the rumor is that the "creative differences" were that Apple wants the new show to have a family friendly tone that's in line with the original Amazing Stories. Apparently Fuller and Hanson had a different tone in mind.

Apple has now found the writers and executive producers will be replacing Fuller and Hanson on the series. They are Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, creators of ABC's fairy tale-inspired fantasy drama Once Upon a Time (pictured above). Once Upon a Time just finished its seven season run; the series finale aired last Friday.

Ten episodes of the Amazing Stories reboot have been ordered. The plan is that this new set of stories will

transport the audience to worlds of wonder through the lens of today’s most imaginative filmmakers, directors and writers.

Amblin Television's Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey will be executive producing the new series alongside Kitsis, Horowitz, and Spielberg.

Amazing Stories was an interesting series, setting itself apart from a lot of anthologies with the fact that it would delve into different genres from episode to episode. That may have been why it had low ratings and only lasted two seasons, but the approach allowed for the making of some memorable episodes that were very different from each other. I hope the new series will also be a mixture of genres.
