We’ve got a lot of new Star Wars series on the show, and one of those is The Acolyte, a new live-action series from Leslye Headland (Russian Doll). First reported by The Illuminerdi and later by Variety, it seems Disney is currently looking at Amandla Stenberg to star in the Star Wars series as they’re currently in talks to play the mysterious leading role.
The Acolyte is said to take place in the final days of the High Republic era, which the Star Wars franchise has recently been exploring in a series of novels, comics, and more. The High Republic era lasted for around 200 years and was a golden age for the Jedi. The end of this era took place roughly 50 years before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has previously said that The Acolyte will be a “mystery thriller that will take us into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging Dark Side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.” Amandla Stenberg is best known for their roles in The Hunger Games, The Hate U Give, The Darkest Minds, and recently starred in the feature-film adaptation of Dear Evan Hansen.
We still don’t know much about The Acolyte but rumours have hinted that it will explore the rise of the Dark Side. Details about Amandla Stenberg’s character are naturally being kept under wraps, but it would be interesting to see them play a Dark Side character in the Star Wars series. Leslye Headland serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner on The Acolyte, which is expected to kick off production in mid-2022. In addition to The Acolyte, we’ve got plenty of other Star Wars shows on the way, including The Book of Boba Fett, Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Star Wars: Andor, Star Wars: Ahsoka, and the third season of The Mandalorian.
