UPDATE! Amanda Seyfried and Taylor Swift offered parts in Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables

UPDATE: You can put your pitchforks down, LES MISERABLES fans. Broadway World (via Coming Soon) is reporting today that Taylor Swift is out and that Samantha Barks is for Tom Hooper’s musical adaptation of the classic French tale. Barks will reprise the part of ‘Eponine’ which she previously played on the London stage. She will join Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne, and Amanda Seyfried, who’s since been confirmed for the part of ‘Cosette’.

January 4, 2012: KING’S SPEECH director Tom Hooper’s next piece of Oscar Bait is apparently close to landing a couple of hot blondes with pipes.

According to Twitch, Amanda Seyfried (LOVELACE, IN TIME) and Taylor Swift (THE LORAX, VALENTINE’S DAY) have been offered the roles of ‘Cosette’ and ‘Eponine’ respectively in Hooper’s upcoming musical adaptation LES MISERABLES. Should they accept, the two would join a cast that currently includes Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Eddie Redmayne.

Swift’s musical talents have helped her stand out among other leading ladies vying for the part of ‘Eponine’, as the country singer reportedly beat out actresses Lea Michele, Scarlett Johansson, and Evan Rachel Wood among others. Seyfried meanwhile, unbeknownst to most, is an operatically trained singer. This is all good since Hooper will supposedly be recording all of the film’s vocals live on camera.

A breakdown of the story from an earlier report:

Les Misérables contains many plots, but the main thread is the story of ex-convict, Jean Valjean (known by his prison number, 24601), who becomes a force for good in the world, but cannot escape his dark past. The novel is divided into five volumes, each volume divided into books, and subdivided into chapters (for a total of three hundred sixty-five chapters). It also contains what is considered the longest sentence in a published novel. Within the borders of the novel’s story, Hugo fills many pages with his thoughts on religion, politics, and society, including several lengthy digressions, one being a discussion on enclosed religious orders, one on the construction of the Paris sewers, another being on argot, and most famously, his retelling of the Battle of Waterloo.
