After delivering a chilling performance as Rose Armitage for Jordan Peele's GET OUT, Allison Williams is headed back to Blumhouse for the upcoming tech horror thriller M3GAN, in which she’ll star and executive produce.
According to Deadline, Williams plays Gemma, a brilliant roboticist at a toy company. She uses artificial intelligence to develop M3GAN, a life-like doll programmed to be a kid’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally. After unexpectedly gaining custody of her orphaned niece, Gemma enlists the help of the M3GAN prototype – a decision that has unimaginable consequences.
Akela Cooper (Chambers, Luke Cage, American Horror Story, Witches of East End) penned the script which is based on a story by Jame Wan, whose Atomic Monster studio will produce the feature for Universal. Directing the film is HOUSEBOUND helmer Gerard Johnstone, who's also shot episodes of shows like The Jaquie Brown Diaries, Terry Teo, and The New Legends of Monkey. Jason Blum and Wan will also act as producers on M3GAN, with Michael Clear executive producing under the Atomic Monster label. Judson Scott will lead the charge for Atomic Monster while Blumhouse's Ryan Turek will join the effort as an executive producer.
In addition to scaring the bejesus out of horror fans in GET OUT, Williams also starred as Marnie for six seasons on HBO’s Emmy and Golden Globe-winning TV series Girls. Most recently, Williams completed her work on director Mikael Marcimain's HORIZON LINE, a thriller that tells the story of a couple flying on a small plane to attend a tropical island wedding who must fight for their lives after their pilot suffers a heart attack.
Woof! Is anyone else getting some CHILD'S PLAY meets I AM MOTHER vibes from the concept for M3GAN? I must admit that I'm intrigued. We'll be sure to bring you more details as M3GAN continues to be pieced together.
