Thirty years ago a movie came out that many feared wouldn’t exactly work out. It was a sequel to a mega-hit movie, and was being directed by a man with only one real film under his belt. If that wasn't enough, this greenhorn was using complex, state-of-the-art visual effects and techniques, stressing out his crew and basically trying to invent the future of blockbuster filmmaking. However, not only did it work out, it brought the f@cking house down. As a result, it became one of the most successful sequels of all time, as well as an immediate go-to along with THE GODFATHER: PART II and THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK as a “this is how you get shit done” example for sequels. The movie I am so lovingly alluding to is ALIENS, the James Cameron sci-fi classic, and sequel to ALIEN, the Ridley Scott original classic. Ever wonder why Cameron is so good when you’re watching TERMINATOR 2, TITANIC or AVATAR? Because of this movie, that’s why. Cameron perfected his trademark style of directing with this big-budget sequel, and has been a badass force to be reckoned with ever since. And this, possibly his best film, is his bouncing bundle of celluloid badassery, completely unique unto itself. Today, we honor its 30th anniversary with a video tribute for your viewing pleasure. If you have not seen ALIENS, then stop reading this, find your nearest VHS player, find an ALIENS cassette and stop wasting your life.
