I have to admit, I'm starting to feel a bit of ALIEN: COVENANT fatigue. I feel like the marketing department is throwing too much at me when all I need to see before I get to the theatre on opening weekend is a trailer. But I'm only reluctantly on board with director Ridley Scott's plans for an epic ALIEN prequel series, so fans who are more excited to see the origin of the Xenomorphs might be more receptive to this kind of stuff.
The latest bit of viral marketing is an arty clip directed by Luke Scott in which we see the creation of a Walter android, played by Michael Fassbender. The clip can be seen below, and if you're curious what the song is, it seems to be the Eels remix of Melanie De Biasio's "I Feel You".
A website has been set up at MeetWalter.com where you can reserve your own Walter, "the world's most advanced synthetic companion, designed to help you achieve a better human experience." Before you get too excited, make sure to read the fine print: "Walter is a fictional character in the film ALIEN: COVENANT. By clicking the Connect button, you will not receive an actual Walter."
Written by Michael Green, Jack Paglen, and John Logan, ALIEN: COVENANT is set ten years after the events of PROMETHEUS and has the following synopsis:
The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.
Katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, Benjamin Rigby, Tess Haubrich, Uli Latukefu, James Franco, Noomi Rapace, and Guy Pearce star. Andrew Crawford was in the Xenomorph suit on set and Javier Botet provided a motion capture performance.
The movie is scheduled to reach theatres on May 19th.
