Disney rebooting Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Alexander, Disney, reboot

Judith Viorst's Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day is a classic children's book, so it's no surprise that Disney gave the story the live-action treatment several years ago with a film that starred Steve Carell, Jennifer Garner, and Ed Oxenbould. The film followed 11-year-old Alexander (Oxenbould) as he experienced the most terrible and horrible day of his life when he got gum stuck in his hair and went on to experience one calamity after another, and he wasn't alone as it turned out that his entire family were all living through their very own terrible, horribly, no good, very bad day.

Deadline has now reported that Disney is in the early stages of rebooting Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and have tasked Matt Lopez with penning the script. This new version is being developed for the Disney+ streaming service and while it's not known just how the plot of the reboot will be different from the original, Deadline does note that the new film will "focus on a multigenerational Latinx family" this time around. Matt Lopez definitely has a history with Disney, as he's previously written Bedtime Stories, Race to Witch Mountain, and The Sorcerer's Apprentice for the studio.
