Last year we learned Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci want to create a shared cinematic universe for Universal Pictures' classic movie monsters, however there hasn't been any news on the project since the screenwriters ended their working relationship back in April.
But now Deadline is reporting Kurtzman is sticking with Universal's monster mash, and joining him will be THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS 1-7 and WANTED screenwriter Chris Morgan. The site says the duo have "begun the meetings to put together an interconnected slate of Monster films," with the first being THE MUMMY, which is scheduled to be released on April 22, 2016. Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan might end up writing at least one of the monster movies, but right now they are only producing the films.
I don't think a shared cinematic universe involving Universal's monsters is a bad idea, but I'm not extremely excited about these plans either. A lot is going to depend on how the monsters will be used, and what brings them all together.
What are your thoughts on Universal's plans for their classic movie monsters, and which one are you the most excited to see again on the big screen?
