Álex de la Iglesia has been a constant presence in the horror genre since making his feature directorial debut with ACCION MUTANTE in 1993, and it sounds like we can look forward to a lot more horror with his name on it in the future. Pokeepsie Films, the production company he runs with Carolina Bang, has signed a deal with Amazon Prime Video and Sony Pictures International Productions that will see them producing a series of feature-length horror films under the banner of THE FEAR COLLECTION. De la Iglesia will also be directing some of the films in THE FEAR COLLECTION, and the entries not directed by him will still be "made under his creative influence".
The films in this series will receive theatrical release through Sony Pictures Entertainment Iberia, and then be available to watch on Amazon Prime in Spain. Sony Pictures International Productions holds all other distribution rights.
Several films in the series are already in development, the plan being for two new entries in THE FEAR COLLECTION to be released every year. In addition to De la Iglesia, the creative teams include his frequent co-writer Jorge Guerricaechevarría, [REC] writer/director Jaume Balagueró, THE BRIDE director Paula Ortiz, VERÓNICA co-writer Fernando Navarro, and I CAN QUIT WHENEVER I WANT director Carlos Theron.
De la Iglesia said THE FEAR COLLECTION is
an ambitious project that I've been hauling around for years. The concept is to make a collection of films that unveil a universe of horror beyond time. The characters face supernatural forces that threaten humanity. The idea is to generate a label of films with a specific character, Cosmic Horror."
This sounds like a good time to me. I look forward to seeing the movies that will make up THE FEAR COLLECTION.
Putting this trailer here because COLOR OUT OF SPACE is "cosmic horror"
