In this guy's opinion, cult Spanish filmmaker Alex de la Iglesia is one of the most creative and exciting filmmakers working today. I absolutely loved 1995's THE DAY OF THE BEAST, got a huge kick out of 2010's THE LAST CIRCUS, and found last years WITCHING & BITCHING to be one of the years best films, so I'm always stoked to hear when Iglesia is cooking up some more wicked fun.
Variety is reporting that Alex de la Iglesia is prepping for two new films, one of which will be a single-location thriller titled THE BAR, which is co-written by Iglesia’s long-term co-scribe, Jorge Guerricaechevarría. The plan is to shoot both films between January and March 2015.
THE BAR concerns a group of people locked inside a bar. Given its single core location, De la Iglesia says that it will work a bit like a stage play, “where tensions between the main characters grabs all the attention.”
Variety goes on to explain that in THE BAR, the people in the titular location are effectively imprisoned because a madman is shooting anyone who exits. Iglesia describes the assassin as a “strange, exterminating angel.” Little by little the people inside the bar begin to reveal their sins and guilt, thus returning to some of the helmer’s trademark interest in religion-related themes.
Sounds like a wicked good time to me! Pour me a drink and save me a seat at THE BAR.
More on THE BAR as we hear it.
WITCHING & BITCHING was an insane film!
