Dwayne Johnson's BLACK ADAM has gained another superhero as THR has reported that Aldis Hodge (THE INVISIBLE MAN) is currently in final negotiations to play Hawkman in the upcoming film. First introduced in the pages of Flash Comics #1 in 1940, there have been several different incarnations of Hawkman with different origins over the years, but he's typically been depicted as a hero who uses large, artificial wings attached to a harness made from the special Nth metal that allows flight. Most versions of Hawkman also prefer to use archaic weaponry, such as maces, nets, spears, and shields, rather than modern weapons.
We learned a lot about BLACK ADAM during DC FanDome last month, including that the Justice Society of America will be featured. We'll get to see Hawkman (Hodge) as a member of this team, as well as Doctor Fate, Cyclone, and Atom Smasher, the latter of whom is set to be played by Noah Centineo. BLACK ADAM producer Hiram Garcia has previously teased the JSA's introduction in the upcoming film.
We are so excited to introduce the Justice Society, especially Hawkman who’s such a beloved character and one of those heroes who’s always meant so much to the DC universe. Having them play in the same sandbox as Black Adam is going to be fantastic, and for the already established fans of these characters I think they are going to be really excited to see what elements from classic story lines we take inspiration from as we bring these characters together. When you take a powerhouse like Black Adam and inject him into this DC cinematic universe you want to make sure you are putting characters around him that can really up the stakes. As DJ likes to say the hierarchy of power in the DC universe really is going to change so Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher and Cyclone will have their hands full no matter how we choose to have them interact with Black Adam.
In addition to THE INVISIBLE MAN, Aldis Hodge has also been featured in A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD, STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON, JACK REACHER: NEVER GO BACK, HIDDEN FIGURES, WHAT MEN WANT, and ONE NIGHT IN MIAMI. Aldis also stars alongside Kevin Bacon in Showtime's City on a Hill, a crime drama set in Boston in the early 1990s when the city was full of violent criminals and corrupt law enforcement. As far as when production on BLACK ADAM might get underway, COVID-19 obviously makes that difficult to say, but producers have said that they hope to start shooting by early 2021.
