It's Hollywood, 1958. Small town beauty queen and devout Baptist Marla Mabrey (Lily Collins), under contract to the infamous Howard Hughes (Warren Beatty), arrives in Los Angeles. At the airport, she meets her personal driver Frank Forbes (Alden Ehrenreich), only two weeks on the job and also from a religiously conservative background. Their instant attraction not only puts their religious convictions to the test, but also defies Hughes' #1 rule: no employee is allowed to have an intimate relationship with a contract actress. As you can imagine, this only complicates things in the trailer for the written/directed picture from Warren Beatty, RULES DON'T APPLY.
Now that Alden Ehrenreich has been chosen to play Han Solo, all eyes will be on him and his output for the foreseeable future. Him and Lily Collins certainly look to have the chemistry, but I'm not too sure about the story. It's been early 20 years since Warren Beatty stepped behind the camera, so I'd like to think there's something special about this film. Then again, maybe he just wanted to play Howard Hughes. I sure wish we'd get that Christopher Nolan Hughes biopic instead!
RULES DON'T APPLY will open in theaters on November 11, 2016.
