Good news Albert Brooks fans: Deadline has learned the actor will appear in J.C. Chandor's (MARGIN CALL, ALL IS LOST) A MOST VIOLENT YEAR. Oscar Isaac joined the film last month, and it also stars Jessica Chastain. A MOST VIOLENT YEAR, "takes place in New York in 1981, a year in which the city had one of its highest tallies of violent crime. An immigrant and his family are trying to grow their heating oil business and their ambition collides with the crime element." Albert Brooks will play Oscar Isaac's character's attorney in the upcoming film.
J.C. Chandor is also working on a biopic about legendary football coach Vince Lombardi, and is definitely a hot name right now in Hollywood. Critics loved his ALL IS LOST, and many expect great things in the future from the director. Albert Brooks doesn't star in that many films (although he does do a lot of voice work), so if Brooks wants to work with Chandor, then the director must be doing something right. I wish there were a bit more details about the plot for A MOST VIOLENT YEAR, but I think the film has a ton of potential, and I'm curious to see who else might join J.C. Chandor's new movie.
