Alan Tudyk will return as K-2SO for the Cassian Andor Star Wars TV series

The first live-action Star Wars TV series to land on Disney's upcoming streaming service will be The Mandalorian, but the next series is already in development. It was announced last year that Diego Luna would be reprising his role of Cassian Andor from ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY for a new Star Wars TV series which was being described as a "rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire."

Given that the series will obviously serve as a prequel to ROGUE ONE, it was a good bet that Cassian's buddy K-2SO would also be back, and during today's Disney+ presentation, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that Alan Tudyk would indeed return to reprise the role. Good news. In a statement when the project was first, Diego Luna said, "Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me. I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply." Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that The Mandalorian will be premiering on Disney+ when the streaming service launches later this year, and also revealed that more Star Wars shows, both live-action and animated, are in the works as well. All of the STAR WARS films will roll out within the first year of Disney+, with the Original and Prequel trilogies set to be available at launch.

Star Wars Celebration is currently underway in Chicago, and as there will be a special panel devoted to STAR WARS: EPISODE IX tomorrow, there's a very good bet that we'll get our first teaser for the new film, or, at the very least, a title. Either way, we'll let you know!
