Typically, when one offers you a role in a Star Wars film you don't say no, you say "abba abbah abbah-OKAY!", but believe it or not, Alan Tudyk almost had to turn down Gareth Edwards' offer to star in ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY. While speaking with Digital Spy, Tudyk revealed that production of his upcoming web series Con Man (which he created, wrote, directed, and starred in) almost stood in the way of Tudyk taking part in the first Star Wars spin-off.
[Gareth] offered it to me in the room – it didn't seem real, I said, 'I would love to say yes, but it is contingent on one thing. I can't believe I'm saying this, but if you're shooting in June, I have to say no' – because that's when we were shooting Con Man, and I couldn't figure out how to reschedule it.
Thankfully Gareth Edwards informed Tudyk that he wouldn't be needed on the film's Pinewood Studios set, so Tudyk was able to join the cast afterall. Naturally Alan Tudyk, who is said to be playing a mo-cap character, couldn't reveal too many details about ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY, but he did say that he shares most of his scenes with Diego Luna and Felicity Jones. Production on the film has been difficult, but like the man says, it's Star Wars!
There's always those days that are really hard. You're wet, you're cold, it's way early… there's some interesting things when you're on-set that can be challenging, but when you get into that moment of, 'This is hard, this is terrible, I'm miserable' and then you're like, 'Oh look, it's Star Wars!' and that feeling is immediately erased. It doesn't last for a breath – you can't even get it out without going, 'But look over there! And look at that!'
ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY is set for a December 16, 2016 release.
