It's Friday, and we always like to end the week by gathering all of this week's additions to our JoBlo Horror YouTube channel (check it out and subscribe HERE) together in one place. It's the AITH HORROR VIDEOS OF THE WEEK!
More great content hit the YouTube channel this week. We started things off by taking a look at the collaborations of Guillermo del Toro and Doug Jones in a new episode of DEADLY DUOS, then we added writer/director/producer Mando Franco's slasher short XMASsacre to our horror short film showcase, shared the story I Can Hear Them When They Walk in our latest TALES FROM CREEPYPASTA video, and finished off the week with the premiere of the documentary TAX SHELTER TERRORS, directed by Xavier Mendik, Deke Richards, and Francesco Giannini. All of these videos can be seen below.
GUILLERMO DEL TORO + DOUG JONES – Deadly Duos
This installment of Deadly Duos explores the relationship of horror maestro Guillermo Del Toro and the man who brings his horrific creations to life, Doug Jones. From their unlikely meeting to their domination of the Oscar circuit for The Shape of Water (2017), come on this trip down Deadly Duo lane!
Deadly Duos is Arrow in the Head’s series dedicated to featuring the iconic pairings of filmmakers who have worked together multiple times in horror films. Actors and directors, producers and composers, no matter the role or the era, every episode is a journey through the most beloved and classic (as well as obscure and forgotten) pairings that have made for the most memorable films in horror history.
XMASSACRE – Short Horror Film
PLOT: A woman finds herself hunted in the snowy woods by a maniac in a Santa Claus costume.
CAST: Jackie Kelly, Murphey, Tabitha Franco and Michael David Smith
Directed/Written by – Mando Franco
Produced by – Mando Franco, Randy Hall and Josh Sellers
A word from the director: X-MASsacre was inspired by my favorite slasher films and was a love letter to Black Christmas, Halloween and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I originally had the idea back in 2008 and never really did anything with it. Living in the Midwest, I was inspired by the snow and the landscape to go on this journey to create a rubber masked killer Santa flick. As much as I love the horror genre, I’m a bigger fan of psychological thrillers and suspense. I then blended the 80’s slasher with a cat and mouse thriller. I am currently in post on a new short film called DEATH SCENE about an evil entity that lives inside a television and writing a feature. More to come!
I CAN HEAR THEM WHEN THEY WALK – Tales From Creepypasta
Synopsis: "A guy is plagued by mysterious beings who stalk him while he sleeps."
Creepypastas are the campfire tales of the internet. Horror stories spread through forums like reddit and blogs, rather than word of mouth. Whether you believe these scary stories to be true or not is left to your own discretion and imagination.
Narrated and edited by Freaky Attractions.
TAX SHELTER TERRORS – Horror Documentary
Many of our most iconic slasher/exploitation films of old are in fact Canadian and were born out of the Canadian Government tax incentives that were available from 1975 to 1982. I'm talking gems like BLACK CHRISTMAS, TERROR TRAIN, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME, MY BLOODY VALENTINE, VISITING HOURS, PROM NIGHT, THE BROOD, SCANNERS, SHIVERS, ILSA SHE WOLF OF THE SS and the list goes on!
And today, Arrow in the Head is very proud to premiere the engaging and insightful documentary TAX SHELTER TERRORS which explores the topic head on! The acclaimed film (which premiered at the Toronto's Horror-Rama and screened at the prestigious Sitges Film Festival) was directed by Xavier Mendik and co-directed by Deke Richards (the brain child behind the project) and Francesco Giannini.
Give it a watch and get educated as to how some of our beloved exploitation films came to be via candid interviews with William Lustig, George Mihalka, Pierre David, Gregory Dunning, André Link, Dyanne Thorne and many more!
