AITH Horror Videos of the Week: Dead Calm! Creepypasta! Shocker! Short film!

The end of the week means it's time once again to gather the latest additions to our JoBlo Horror YouTube channel (check it out and subscribe HERE) together in one place. It's the AITH HORROR VIDEOS OF THE WEEK!

The new videos on the channel are an entry in our BEST HORROR MOVIE YOU NEVER SAW series that focuses on 1989's DEAD CALM; director Gabriel Veendendaal's short film LIKE A VIRUS, part of our horror short film showcase; a new TALES FROM CREEPYPASTA that tells the story of THE WHAT IF MAN; and a WTF HAPPENED TO THIS HORROR MOVIE? episode that's all about Wes Craven's SHOCKER. Each of these videos can be seen below.

DEAD CALM – Best Horror Movie You Never Saw

Welcome to The Best Horror Movie You NEVER Saw, a series dedicated to examining films that have flown under the radar or gained traction throughout the years, earning them a place as a cult classic or underrated gem that was either before it’s time and/or has aged like a fine wine.

I've personally never been a fan of sailing (what, with the nausea, claustrophobia, and Galeophobia), but the 1989 horror-thriller DEAD CALM, produced by George Miller (MAD MAX) and directed by Phillip Noyce (BLIND FURY) – ups the ante by showing what would happen if you were stuck in the middle of the ocean with a crazy, homicidal Billy Zane! Which makes me want to sail even less. Anyway, here's the official synopsis for the film, which also stars Sam Neill and a young Nicole Kidman:

Synopsis: After a tragedy, John Ingram and his wife Rae are spending some time isolated at sea, when they come across a stranger who has abandoned a sinking ship.

LIKE A VIRUS – Short Horror Film

Synopsis: Felicity has a preternatural ability to help disaffected spirits pass peacefully, but when a trickster invades her visions, she struggles to make sense of her newest assignment.

Cast: Amy Wickenhesier as Felicity, Thomas Johnston as Thomas

Writer: Erin Broussard

Producer: Donny Broussard & Erin Broussard

Director: Gabriel Veenendaal

Original Score: Patrick Irwin

Director Statement: Like a Virus begin from a script written by Erin Broussard based on the comic of the same name written by Ken Lowery & Robert Wilson IV. Shortly after finishing the script, I was approached by producer Donny Broussard to direct the film after recently finishing my Comedy Web Series: Bounce Houses & Baseball Cards. I flew into New Orleans from Los Angeles in July, where we had three days to rehearse, prep and film, and we did it, thanks to a great crew and cast, even after battling one of those infamous Louisiana thunderstorms. Shortly after Like A Virus, I directed and edited a short documentary titled “Roxy” about a female boxer from East Los Angeles, and I am currently developing a handful of projects including a short film to be released in early 2021.

THE WHAT IF MAN – Tales From Creepypasta

Synopsis: "A You Tube addict goes down a dangerous rabbit hole after learning how to summon the mysterious What If Man."

Creepypastas are the campfire tales of the internet. Horror stories spread through forums like reddit and blogs, rather than word of mouth. Whether you believe these scary stories to be true or not is left to your own discretion and imagination.

Narrated and edited by Freaky Attractions.

SHOCKER – WTF Happened to this Horror Movie

WTF Happened to this Horror Movie is a series that digs into the backstories of all your favorite (and sometimes most hated) horror films. The idea has always been to provide an inside look at what went right (and often what went wrong) with some of these classics (and non-classics).

Wes Craven gave the horror genre one of its greatest icons when he introduced Freddy Krueger in 1984’s A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, but he had very little to do with what happened to Freddy after that. So when Alive Films asked him to create a new horror franchise that he would have control over and a financial stake in, he jumped at the chance. He gave them the 1989 SHOCKER!

SHOCKER was supposed to give us a new genre icon, jump-start a franchise, and earn Craven stacks of cash. Instead, it had a mediocre run at the box office and never received a follow-up of any kind. So WTF Happened to This Horror Movie?
