Ashley Eckstein, who has been a fan-favorite voicing Ahsoka Tano on the Clone Wars animated series, is speaking out about not being cast as the live-action version of the character in season two of The Mandalorian, something some fans are still vocally upset about.
Last week it was announced that Rosario Dawson would be taking on the role of Ahsoka Tano on The Mandalorian and many fans were thrilled by the news because Dawson has been a top choice for the role and she has been vocal herself about being more than willing to take it on. Despite mostly positive feedback to Dawson's casting, fans of Eckstein's were a little upset because the voice actress has given life to the character throughout multiple seasons of the Clone Wars TV show, a guest role in Star Wars Rebels, and several other pieces of STAR WARS media, including video games. Eckstein even voiced Ahsoka for the sequence in THE RISE OF SKYWALKER where Rey hears the voices of the Jedi that came before her. Because of her service to the role, you would think she would've earned her shot to bring the live-action version of the character to life but the voice actress took to her Instagram to express her gratitude to the fans but since she's not involved with The Mandalorian, she couldn't offer much insight on their decision.
You can read Eckstein's full letter in her post above but she touches on a variety of topics including her excitement about the remainder of Clone Wars season 7 and the importance of helping one another amidst the coronavirus pandemic. As for as The Mandalorian, although she can't say much, she does take the high road by saying who plays Ahsoka in live-action is not her call to make. You can tell it was a dream of hers to bring this character to life but from what I can gather, she wasn't even in discussions to join The Mandalorian for season 2.
Eckstein's contributions to the role are not to be taken lightly. The character is probably one of the most popular characters across the STAR WARS franchise and that is due in large part to Eckstein's vocal work. While she won't be on The Mandalorian, it's very possible that new fans will see the character and will want to discover her beginnings and will find that in the work that Eckstein set up first.
Do YOU think Eckstein deserved a shot at The Mandalorian or was Rosario Dawson the right choice?
