Agnes: December release for possessed nun film starring Molly C. Quinn

Magnet Releasing has picked up the worldwide rights to the possession horror thriller Agnes, directed by Mickey Reece and starring Molly C. Quinn (Doctor Sleep). They’re planning to give the film a theatrical and VOD release on December 10th – just in time for the holidays!

Reece wrote the screenplay for Agnes with John Selvidge, telling the story of what happens when

a nun’s disturbing behavior at a remote convent sparks rumors of demonic possession. When a priest-in-waiting and his disillusioned mentor are sent to investigate, their methods backfire, leaving a wake of terror and trauma.

Quinn is joined in the cast by Jake Horowitz (The Vast of Night), Sean Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), Chris Sullivan (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), Chris Browning (Sons of Anarchy), Ben Hall (Climate of the Hunter), Mary Buss (Camp Cold Brook), and Rachel True (The Craft), with Hayley McFarland (The Conjuring) as the title character.

Magnolia president Eamonn Bowles described Agnes as “truly original” and “truly disquieting”. Reece had this to say about the distribution deal:

I am thrilled to be releasing Agnes with Magnolia. I have long admired their enthusiasm for eclectic genre cinema, and I respect so many of the filmmakers that they’ve previously worked with. It is quite surreal for me to have one of my films join such an esteemed lineage of movies. It’s the perfect home for the film.”

The film was produced by Quinn, Matthew M. Welty, and Elan Gale for QWGmire, along with Jensine Carr for Divide/Conquer, and Jacob Snovel. Zac Locke serves as executive producer with Divide/Conquer’s Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath.

Aside from The Exorcist, possession movies aren’t really my thing – unless they’re more along the lines of The Evil Dead and Demons. But Agnes sounds interesting, so I might give it a chance this holiday season.
