Agents of SHIELD’s Gabriel Luna to play a Terminator in James Cameron film

Every TERMINATOR movie needs, well, a Terminator, and James Cameron's upcoming reboot/sequel has found their man. Deadline reports that Gabriel Luna, who played Robbie Reyes/Ghost Rider on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., will be stepping into the role.

As I bailed on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. long before the Ghost Rider years, I'm not all that familiar with Gabriel Luna, but I'd imagine that you don't get to become a Spirit of Vengeance without a piercing glare and bad-ass presence, both of which would certainly be useful when you're playing a Terminator. Details on Luna's Terminator character are slim, but it's exciting to see the cast of the TERMINATOR film come together. Speaking of cast, the same article makes mention that Natalia Reyes (Lady, La Vendedora de Rosas) and Diego Boneto (Scream Queens) have also signed on, joining Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, and Mackenzie Davis in the Tim Miller (DEADPOOL) film. THR adds that Natalia Reyes will actually be playing the main role in the movie, that of Dani, "a young woman from a working class neighborhood in Mexico City who finds herself in the battle between humans and machines." The outlet added that James Cameron and Tim Miller "made a concerted effort to find a Latina actress and someone who they considered a 'discovery,' in the similar way Cameron did with [Linda] Hamilton when he cast the young actress in his 1984 movie." Production is expected to get underway next month.

Plot details are still unknown, but we do know that it will be ignoring much of the James Cameron-less part of the franchise, with the director even implying that it would be the true sequel to TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY.  Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton will  "anchor" the story, much like the Original Trilogy characters in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS. The TERMINATOR film will hit theaters on November 22, 2019.
