Agatha: Darkhold Diaries featurette goes behind the scenes of Marvel Disney+ series

The first Marvel / Disney+ series WandaVision is getting a collector’s edition Blu-ray release tomorrow (you can order a copy HERE) – and apparently a featurette that offers a behind-the-scenes look at the spin-off / follow-up Agatha: Darkhold Diaries (which was formerly known as Agatha: House of Harkness and then Agatha: Coven of Chaos) is included in the extras! Agatha isn’t expected to start streaming on the Disney+ service until the early fall of 2024 – possibly on September 192024 – so this featurette gets the marketing started quite early.

Some fans have already received their WandaVision Blu-rays and decided to share the featurette on X:

Along with a screen cap showing a glimpse of the character being played by Aubrey Plaza:

As shared by the folks at ComicBookMovie.com, the first episode of Agatha: Darkhold Diaries has the following synopsis, which was apparently found in a U.S. Copyright Office listing: In the first episode, we see Agatha finally break out of a spell she has been trapped in. She can’t wait to go back to her old murderous ways only to find that she is powerless. The only way forward for her is to embark on a perilous quest to get her powers back with the help of an unlikely friend or two.

Kathryn Hahn reprises her WandaVision role of Agatha Harkness and is joined in the cast by Joe Locke, Patti LuPone, Sasheer Zamata, and Ali Ahn. Plus, as mentioned, Aubrey Plaza.

The first episode of Agatha: Darkhold Diaries was directed by Jac Schaeffer, who previously directed the sci-fi rom-com TiMER, created WandaVision, and worked on the scripts for Black Widow and Captain Marvel.

SuperHeroHype reminds us that the comic book version of the Agatha Harkness character was originally created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, with her first appearance being in 1970’s Fantastic Four #94. She’s known for being one of the most powerful magicians in the Marvel universe, as she served as a mentor to Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. She was also a nanny to Reed Richards and Sue Storm’s son, Franklin Richards.

Agatha: Darkhold Diaries is one of several Marvel / Disney+ shows coming down the line, with others (that we know about) including What If…? seasons 2 and 3, Echo, Ironheart, Wonder Man, Marvel Zombies, Vision Quest, Spider-Man: Freshman Year and Spider-Man: Sophomore Year, and untitled Nova and Wakanda shows. There’s also Daredevil: Born Again, which is now undergoing a major overhaulLoki season 2 recently wrapped up its run.

Are you looking forward to Agatha: Darkhold Diaries? Are you glad to know there’s a promotional featurette on the WandaVision Blu-ray? Share your thoughts on this one by leaving a comment below.
