I hope you’re someplace warm because Netflix’s Against the Ice trailer is about to send shivers down your spine. Directed by Peter Flinth (War Below Zero, Eye of the Eagle), and written by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones, Oblivion) and Joe Derrick, Against the Ice is based on the Danish novel “Two Against the Ice” by Ejnar Mikkelsen.

Per Netflix, here is the official synopsis for Against the Ice:

In 1909, Denmark’s Arctic Expedition led by Captain Ejnar Mikkelsen (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) was attempting to disprove the United States’ claim to Northeast Greenland. This claim was based on the assumption that Greenland was broken up into two different pieces of land. Leaving his crew behind with the ship, Mikkelsen embarks on a journey across the ice with his inexperienced crew member, Iver Iversen (Joe Cole). The two men succeed in finding the proof that Greenland is one island, but returning to the ship takes longer and is much harder than expected. Battling extreme hunger, fatigue, and a polar bear attack, they finally arrive to find their ship crushed in the ice and the camp abandoned. Hoping to be rescued, they now must fight to stay alive. As the days grow longer, their mental hold on reality starts to fade, breeding mistrust and paranoia, a dangerous cocktail in their fight for survival. Against the Ice is a true story of friendship, love, and the awe-inspiring power of companionship.

Joining Coster-Waldau and Cole for Against the Ice are stars Charles Dance, Heida Reed, Ed Speleers, Diarmaid Murtagh, Sam Reford, Frankie Wilson, Nick Jameson, Gísli Örn Garðarsson, and Þorsteinn Bachmann.

In addition to thawing out an Against the Ice trailer for all to be disturbed by, Netflix also debuted key art and images for the upcoming film.

Netflix’s Against the Ice trailer is chilling me down to the bone and I do not envy the two men who have accepted such a dangerous mission. The promo makes it look like if anything could go wrong on their journey, it will. After all, there’s nothing like a threat to your mortality to trigger a rash of bad decisions and compromises for survival. I’m getting cold just thinking about it, and I’m currently wearing a hoodie and sweatpants.
