Adjust your corsets for this trailer of Jane Austen’s Emma

OK confession time. Despite possessing a degree in English literature I have never once read a novel by Jane Austen. I'm well aware of her enduring popularity even though it's been two centuries since she passed. Her critique and commentary on the landed gentry of late 18th century England was immortalized in classic works such as Pride and Prejudice and Mansfield Park. Austen's works have been fodder for cinema for decades, especially Pride and Prejudice.

Aside from the tale chronicling the exploits of Ms. Bennet and Mr. Darcy, arguably Austen's most well regarded novel is her 1815 book Emma. The story follows the title heroine as she embarks on a new path as a wedding matchmaking master. The novel was previously adapted into a 1996 film starring Gwyneth Paltrow and now almost twenty-five years later the movie is getting the remake treatment.

Audiences are only a few months out from this newest iteration and Focus Features has finally dropped a trailer for the eponymous character, starring Anya Taylor-Joy. The film looks to be a fairly straightforward adaption of Austen's classic novel (no zombies to be be found anywhere) and contains the requisite witty English banter, period piece costumes, and classical music. Although I can't say EMMA is a film I'll be checking out personally, Jane Austen fans sure look like they have a delight in store for them.
