Adaptation of Stephen King’s Little Green God of Agony set up at Lionsgate

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Deadline has reported that Fear the Walking Dead co-showrunner Ian Goldberg is teaming with Richard Naing, a writer and producer on the show, to turn the 1992 John Ritter comedy STAY TUNED into a television series for AMC – and buried within that report is the news that the duo are also working on an adaptation of the Stephen King story LITTLE GREEN GOD OF AGONY

Deadline says that Goldberg and Naing have sold their take on LITTLE GREEN GOD OF AGONY to Lionsgate.

LITTLE GREEN GOD OF AGONY was first published in the pages of the 2011 anthology A Book of Horrors, edited by Stephen Jones. It was then included in the collection The Best Horror of the Year: Volume Four, edited by Ellen Datlow, and King's own short story collection The Bazaar of Bad Dreams. It was also turned into a web comic on StephenKing.com, with Dennis Calero handling that adaptation.

The story has the following synopsis:

Katherine "Kat" MacDonald is an RN hired to care for wealthy client, Andrew Newsome, who has gone from doctor to doctor trying to find a quick cure for his lingering pain to no avail. She is convinced that he would overcome the injuries he sustained in an airplane crash but he is unwilling to endure the pain of physical therapy. In desperation, Newsome has hired a healer, Reverend Rideout, who promises to "expel" his pain.

Goldberg and Naine previously collaborated on the short-lived Freeform series Dead of Summer, the Netflix horror film ELI, and Andre Ovredal's THE AUTOPSY OF JANE DOE.

I hadn't heard of LITTLE GREEN GOD OF AGONY before stumbling across this tidbit of news, The Bazaar of Bad Dreams (which you can buy HERE) is one of the King books I haven't gotten to yet, but the story sounds interesting and the title is cool.
