Netflix and Happy Madison have scared up a real treat for Adam Sandler fans on Thursday by debuting a trailer for HUBIE HALLOWEEN, the Saturday Night Live veteran's upcoming holiday-themed feature. Directed by Disney's HEAVYWEIGHTS director Steven Brill, the film casts Sandler in the role of a goodly-natured nuisance whose long history of crying wolf to the authorities has labeled him as someone to ignore. But when a new neighbor who Hubie thinks is up to no good moves into the neighborhood, he begins pulling out all the stops to save his home as well as Halloween.
Here's the official synopsis for HUBIE HALLOWEEN:
Hubie Dubois (Adam Sandler) thanklessly spends every Halloween making sure the residents of his hometown, Salem, celebrate safely and play by the rules. But this year, an escaped criminal and a mysterious new neighbor have Hubie on high alert. When people start disappearing, it's up to Hubie to convince the police (Kevin James, Kenan Thompson) and townsfolk that the monsters are real, and only he can stop them. Hubie Halloween is a hilarious family film about an unlikely hero with an all-star cast including Julie Bowen, Ray Liotta, Noah Schnapp, Steve Buscemi, and Maya Rudolph, produced by Happy Madison.
Written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy (PIXELS, HAPPY GILMORE, THE WEDDING SINGER), HUBIE HALLOWEEN reunites Sandler with his HAPPY GILMORE co-star, Julie Bowen, and features plenty of the comedic actor's usual suspects including Kevin James, Ray Liotta, Rob Schneider, June Squibb, Kenan Thompson, Shaquille O'Neal, Michael Chiklis, Tim Meadows, Karan Brar, George Wallace, Noah Schnapp, Paris Berelc, China Anne McClain, with Steve Buscemi and Maya Rudolph.
Samhain is likely to serve me nothing but circus peanuts this coming Halloween night for saying this but I kind of want to watch HUBIE HALLOWEEN. While I can do without much of Sandler's Netflix offerings from the past few years, there's something very ERNEST SCARED STUPID about this particular romp. If milk-fearing trolls show up and start stealing kids, we may have a lawsuit on our hands, but beyond that, Hubie looks like a brainless bit of fun that will offer Sandler fans a bit of comfort during the canceled Halloween holiday.
HUBIE HALLOWEEN will begin its trick 'r treat route on Netflix on October 7, 2020.
