According to Deadline, Adam Sandler will be heading to the final frontier for his next Netflix project, which is said to be based upon Jaroslav Kalfar's novel "The Spaceman of Bohemia." Before you start thinking that the project will be just another notch in Sandler's increasingly long line of Netflix comedies, it would seem that the untitled project will be a change of pace and give the comedian a dramatic "awards-friendly" role similar to UNCUT GEMS.
With Adam Sandler onboard to star, the project is slated to be directed by Johan Renck, who won an Emmy Award for his work on HBO's Chernobyl, from a script by Colby Day (CHILDREN OF TIME). The film follows "an astronaut (Sandler) sent to the edge of the galaxy to collect mysterious ancient dust. He soon finds his earthly life falling to pieces and he turns to the only voice who can help him try to put it back together. It just so happens to belong to a creature from the beginning of time lurking in the shadows of his ship." It's always interesting to see Sandler venture outside his comfort zone, and "The Spaceman of Bohemia" certainly sounds like it could give us something quite different. In a statement, Johan Renck said:
As we prepare for our voyage to Chopra, I couldn’t be more pleased to have found the perfect partner in Adam. And now, with the support of the brilliant Netflix family, I am profoundly excited to set off on our impossible journey.
Before production begins on the adaptation of "The Spaceman of Bohemia," Sandler has another Netflix flick up his sleeve with HUSTLE, a sports comedy that finds Sandler starring as a washed-up basketball scout who discovers a phenomenal street-ball player while in China and sees the prospect as his opportunity to get back into the NBA. Sandler's HUBIE HALLOWEEN also dropped on Netflix earlier this month, and you can check out a review from our own Matt Rooney right here.
