Adam Sandler takes the Rainbow Trail to Candy Land

Speaking of ridiculous Hasbro adaptations…

Columbia Pictures, Happy Madison and Hasbro are in final talks on CANDY LAND, a live-action film based on the board game. Not only will Adam Sandler be producing and writing the script with Robert Smigel (Triumph the Insult Comic Dog), Sandler will star in it.

What… why… I just… I….

(sigh)

President of Columbia Pictures Belgrad said, “Candy Land is more than just a game. It is a brand that children, parents and grandparents know and love. The world of Candy Land offers an extraordinary canvas upon which to create a fantastical, live-action family adventure film with a larger than life part for Adam. We are thrilled to partner with Hasbro and Happy Madison on this project.”

So it seems like the LORD OF THE RINGS-styled epic fantasy battles won’t be happening, because when has Happy Madison done anything remotely epic? No, they’ll likely just fill it up with a lot of second-rate comedians playing everyone from Gloop to Princess Lolly, and have some politician or sports figure cameo at the end as King Kandy.

“The creative talent on board for this movie is amazing and we are excited to bring alive the world of Candy Land for kids and families everywhere,” Hasbro President BrianGoldner added. “Sony/Columbia has been a wonderful creative partner as we develop another of our games, Risk, for the big screen. We are looking forward to working with Sony/Columbia and Adam Sandler and his team at Happy Madison Productions on this film.”

I wasn’t sure how they could make me want to see a CANDY LAND film even less, but this just sounds absolutely awful.
