Adam Sandler teases his new movie with the Safdie Brothers will be just as intense as Uncut Gems

While it might be easy to dismiss Adam Sandler based on some of the movies he’s done, the dude is a capable actor, and certain directors have been able to coax magic out of him. Adam Sandler’s starring role in Josh and Benny Safdie’s Uncut Gems earned him the best reviews of his career, and he confirmed earlier this year that he would be reuniting with the Safdie Brothers on a new project.

While speaking with Vanity Fair, Adam Sandler said that he expects to start shooting the new Safdie Brothers movie later this winter. “I’m going to do a movie with the Safdie brothers and we’re supposed to start in the late winter,” Sandler said. “I love those guys, I know we’re going to dedicate ourselves into working our asses off and making sure it’s as good as it can be, and I know that takes a lot of time. So part of my brain is going, “Wow, once that movie starts I’m in deep and our lives are going to change.” Like everybody, when you work hard you’re tired, you’re knocked out, and you miss out on some stuff that you wish you could’ve seen. But ultimately, I know it’s going to be a few months of going after a goal that we all feel the same about. We want to do the best we can.

Adam Sandler confirmed that the new movie will be as intense as Uncut Gems, adding that he doesn’t want to let the Safdie Brothers down. “I see how hard they work, and just like when I’m working on my comedies with my friends, it means a lot to us,” Sandler explained. “Every joke means a lot. The Safdie boys, every word means a lot to them, every frame of the movie means a lot. So I don’t want to walk through anything. I care about it, and I respect those guys so much.

Uncut Gems followed Howard Ratner (Sandler), a “charismatic New York City jeweller always on the lookout for the next big score. When he makes a series of high-stakes bets that could lead to the windfall of a lifetime, Howard must perform a precarious high-wire act, balancing business, family, and encroaching adversaries on all sides, in his relentless pursuit of the ultimate win.” As I mentioned above, Adam Sandler received rave reviews for his work on the film, taking home an Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead, among others, but some believed that the lack of an Oscar nomination was a major snub. What are your hopes for the latest collaboration between Adam Sandler and the Safdie Brothers?
