Adam McKay says that Anchorman 3 would pit Ron Burgundy against the Internet

At one point Adam McKay had ruled out any further sequels to ANCHORMAN, but in an interview with Time he said that although he had previously said that they'd never do a third film, he "realized that was a little too harsh because the truth is, I really don’t know. With these movies, you really don’t know how they’ve played until about two years after they come out, when people see them on repeat viewing. That tends to be how our movies work," and if "Anchorman 2 gets that sort of second life, if three, four years from now people start asking us that question a lot and there’s an idea, we would be open to that."

At the moment, the chronicles of Ron Burgundy ended with ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES, but when Adam McKay spoke with Yahoo Movies recently, he indicated that Will Ferrell and himself have been batting around a few ideas for a potential ANCHORMAN 3.

We talked about doing one that was about the rise of the new media. I also thought there was something to the idea — and who knows, maybe we will do one some day — I also thought it’d be cool to have Ron Burgundy get embedded in the Iraq War. We kicked around that idea. But we’ve never got that serious about it, but it would have to be the next stage of what the media has become. And I think you’re right, I think it’s the internet. The only thing is by then Burgundy would be getting pretty old. So maybe it’s a movie we make in 10 years, when Will’s aged up and it actually makes sense that you can set it in 1997 or 98.

Even though it took several viewings for ANCHORMAN to really grow on me, the thought of a Ron Burgundy approaching his senior years ranting nonsensically about the internet is enough to sell me on another trip to the world of the KVWN channel 4 news team. Adam McKay's latest film, THE BIG SHORT, opens in theaters on December 23, 2015.

Would you welcome another journey into the world of Ron Burgundy?
